Duff-Norton Associates Provide Meals for the Hungry

This past holiday season, Duff-Norton decided to conduct a food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina which serves the hungry in 14 counties in North and South Carolina.

Duff-Norton associates were divided up into 5 teams and the competition began to collect the most needed items for the food bank.  The drive took place over a three week period and each week different types of items were collected.  The “prize” for the winning team each week was a free lunch provided by the management team.

During the first week the teams collected dry goods.  Duff-Norton associates collected 1,300 pounds of dry goods such as cereal, dried beans, pasta, rice, and peanut butter.  The second week canned goods were collected and a total of 1,714 pounds were collected.  During the third and final week of the drive, the teams collected non-food items such as laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, paper products and diapers.  In week three, Duff-Norton employees collected 1,117 pounds of non-food items.  Each weekly weigh-in was heavily anticipated and sometimes filled with drama as our Controller oversaw the process and verified the results.

Over the three week event, Duff-Norton associates collected over 4,100 pounds of food and other items for this worthy organization.  According to Second Harvest Food Bank, this will provide over 3,000 meals for the hungry in our area.
